Today I am grateful for...
1.) My calling. Even though many times I feel inadequate, frustrated, overwhelmed and ineffective there are nights like tonight when I feel great for being a part of something very meaningful. We divided up the money that was donated by the members in our ward and we went to Walmart to buy Christmas presents for 4 children. I was specifically shopping for a two year old girl. It was so fun for me to envision a little girl, with many similar characteristics to my own son waking up on Christmas morning with a big smile. We came back to the church, wrapped them, and then they were dropped off. It felt so good to help in some small way to spread the real meaning of Christmas.

2.) These incredibly hard weeks in life that make me appreciate the normal ones. My husband has been working on finals for what feels like months now, but the actual finals weeks were last week and this week. I saw my husband for about 10 minutes total today which is probably an all time low. I can complain a lot about everything that makes this hard on me, like having to take care of our son alone, but all it really is is us both working really hard for something we both really want. We have talked about this goal and this dream of having a family and Robby going to law school for years and the fact that we are actually doing it and doing it together brings such a joy to me even in the hard times. Who knows what life will bring us, maybe much harder times, maybe much easier times, but knowing that we have each other and love each other is all I need to get through it.

3.) I am grateful for knowing I am going to get three weeks with my husband!! Once we are "all grown up" and in the "real world" I don't think that will happen often or ever. So I am going to eat it up!

4.) Mint chocolate chip ice cream. Mmmmmmmmmmm Yummy

5.) Taking my son on the sled today. He was so cute being so bundled up that he couldn't even move. I hope every day I can be a little better at this mom thing. I really feel like I am learning so much from him. Especially to slow down and simplify life. He is the greatest.

November 29th

1.) I am grateful my son is healthy and growing normally. Lately for one reason or another I have been thinking of what it would be like if this wasn't the case. A good friend of mine's niece has leukemia. I watched the movie My Sister's Keeper last night which is about a child who has leukemia and then I turned on Extreme Makeover Home edition to see it is about a child who has leukemia. I kind of broke down crying last night to my husband because of how emotionally draining it was to even watch the show. Some people's trails are as large as they come and having a sick child is as large as it gets. I love my son so much and I am so grateful that everyone in my family is healthy.

2.) I am grateful for people who prepare so well for Sundays. We had great talks today in church and with my calling I have been able to realize a lot this year just the kind of work and effort that goes on behind the scenes. I am glad this calling has stretched me so much that I am much more aware of the preparations others put into talks, lessons, etc.

3.) I am grateful that my husband supports m being home with our son. He is always saying how grateful he is for the support I give him as he goes to school, but it goes both ways. I really need his support for me to be at home when I could be making money for us and I really appreciate that.

4.) I love my ice cream log's my husband makes for me. One night he asked what kind of treat I wanted, I described something with mint and chocolate goodness and he made the most delicious treat I have ever had. It is basically an ice cream cake, but rolled into a log. Drizzled with chocolate on top = the best dessert ever!

5.) I am grateful finals is only 3 weeks long. It might be the longest hardest and most trying 3 weeks of the semester, but it will end and when it does..3 weeks of NOTHING! I am looking forward to some one on one time with my hubby.

November 24

Today is the day before Thanksgiving. It will be the first Thanksgiving I have ever spent away from my family. It will certainly be different and I will miss going around the dinner table saying things I am thankful for. I am glad I am writing these kinds of things on this blog. Having a "thankful heart" sure gives this season a lot more meaning.
1.) I am very grateful for my home (which is anywhere as long as I am with my family) bu the place we are living in right now sure is my sanctuary. I love the feeling I get being in it. I love that I can use my imagination to decorate and make it a warm and inviting place. I am grateful that this is the place we are building some of our most wonderful memories as our little family.

2.) I am grateful for medicines that help comfort when sick. After reading the book Three Cups of Tea I was surprised to read that having something as simple as a basic first aid kit saved people's lives. Wow. I can't imagine having a cold or a sore throat and not be able to run to the store for some nose spray or cough drops. T is sick right now pretty badly and I find great comfort in seeing these medicines comdort him.

3.) I am grateful for Christmas lights. The lights on our tree, on our garland, and in our nativity scene really make it feel like the Christmas season is coming. It is just so nice to look at.

4.) I am grateful for my mother in law, who called for no reason other then to just check up on me and let me know she was thinking about me. Wow, I am blessed. She is so thoughtful. I have so much to learn from her.

5.) I am grateful for trying new things and succeeding. I do not consider myself very domesticated, but now I see that it is becoming more and more important to have those skills. I was terrified of cutting my husband's hair and have failed many times in the past, BUT the last two months I have successfully done it and it looks great. Also for some weird reason I never thought I could make a very good homemade lasagna. Well after three different tries I did it! I also have never touched a sewing machine and a few weeks ago learned the basics of sewing and am SO excited about starting some new projects. Also I have always wanted to be a good decorator, but didn't feel like I really had the special touch. After a few nice compliments I feel like I am making progress. It is fun and a bit empowering to do things that others do so easily that you think you could never do.

Today I am grateful for

1.) ...excercise. My friend and I excercie five tims a week together. It is so good for my body and mind. Plus it is fun to chat while Billy Blanks is shouting at you.

2.) my husband who made an extra trip home, (which was 4th time today) just to sit with me on the couch for 20 min because he wanted to see me. He is absolutely amazing.

3.) Bookclub. It is so important to continue to have intellectual conversations even when I am not teaching and not going to school.

4.) My son going to bed at 7 without any kind of fight. For nearly 8 months my son would not sleep through the night. It was a really hard time for me, but it makes me appreciate the fact that he usually sleeps a 13 hour night no problem.

5.) Friends who invited us over for dinner. It was a crazy day so not having to worry about dinner was such a wonderful treat. Plus it tasted awesome!

What this blog about...

Everyone says it is important to eat 5 fruits and 5 vegetables a day. I couldn't agree with that any more! I say it is just as if not more important to think of 5 things everyday that you are grateful for. I have done this and seen others do this and it changes the way you view life from "what I don't have" to "what I do have." It helps you develop a grateful heart. I chose GRATITUDE!!!

1.) I am grateful for the Christmas season. It is the season in which we celebrate our Savior Jesus Christ coming to the Earth. No wonder the season is full of joy and hope. I wish it lasted all year. People are kinder, more generous, and caring just like our Savior exemplified. '

2.) I am grateful for parenthood. It teaches me so many things and most importantly how to love with my whole being! Children teach me more than any of my graduate or undergratudate professors every could.

3.) I am grateful for marriage. Marriage is the best thing that has ever happened to me because I married the right person, at the right time, in the right place.

4.) I am grateful for the freedoms I enjoy. I am reading "Three Cups of Tea" and can't even imagine going through the trials that some of the Pakistani people face. I am so blessed to live where I live.

5.) I am grateful for laughter, especially the laughter of children. Nothing brings a smile to my face or joy to my heart quicker than the sound of a child or baby laughing.
